How much does Thumbtack charge for leads? Calculate your cost per won job

Updated: October 01, 2026

Thumbtack charges you for each lead, not for each job. So the price per lead tells you little on its own. What matters is the cost per job you actually win: all your lead charges for a month divided by the jobs that went ahead. The calculator below works that out from your own numbers. We fill in no platform prices.

How Thumbtack charges, in its own words

Thumbtack's help center (How much do I pay for leads and opportunities?) says:

  • You pay for leads: new customers who reach out to you directly. When a customer contacts you from search results and the job matches your job preferences, you auto-pay for the lead.
  • Prices vary with the type and size of the job, how many pros are available, and your market.
  • You set your lead prices with a slider in the Pro app, and that is the exact amount you pay per lead.
  • Opportunities (open leads) show the price upfront. You reach out first and only pay if the customer responds.
  • Your payment history lists every lead and Opportunity you paid for. That is where the numbers for the calculator come from.

Lead cost calculator: what does one won job cost you?

Enter your own numbers from your Thumbtack, Angi or other lead account. The calculator shows what you pay per job you actually won, not per lead.

Count every lead you were charged for.

Total lead charges ÷ number of leads, from your payment history.

Only jobs that actually went ahead.

Leave 0 if your platform charges per lead only.

Enter your average price per lead to see your cost per won job.

The other model: an exclusive local lead site. One business per trade per metro, so every enquiry goes to you alone and no one else is quoting on it.

What the result tells you

Compare the cost per won job with what a typical job leaves you after materials and labor. If the cost per won job takes a small slice of that, the platform is doing its job. If it takes most of it, you are mainly paying for introductions that go to someone else.

Two levers change the number on the platform itself:

  • Fewer wasted leads. Tighten your job preferences (services, travel area, job size) so you only pay for jobs you want.
  • Refunds. Thumbtack's refund policy for pros lists cases that will most likely qualify, such as an invalid phone number or a duplicate lead. A real customer who hires someone else is not on that list. That is the part of the cost the calculator makes visible.

The same maths for Angi

Angi's pro sign-up page advertises "over 1.5M opportunities on Angi last month" but publishes no rate card. Ask for the price range for your trade and ZIP codes in writing, and whether a membership fee comes on top. Then enter both here: the lead price as the price per lead, the membership as the monthly fee. More on Angi: Is Angi worth it for contractors?
